Obesity Competency Framework
The PROMINENCE Obesity Competency Framework for entry-level physiotherapy education programmes has been developed via a systematic process including:
- A Scoping review of obesity competencies for healthcare professionals literature (access the publication in the BMC Medical Education here or download it here).
- A Survey of physiotherapy educators across EU (paper under review).
- A website review of curriculum content in existing obesity education for healthcare professionals programmes.
- The PROMINENCE international Competency Framework Working Group conducting an independent review process and reaching consensus.
- An external validation of framework process, which included international physiotherapy educators
and a clinician review.
The proposed framework domains and competencies reflect the decision of the PROMINENCE team
to focus on articulating competencies that are more obesity-specific, to address the ‘obesity gap’
in Physiotherapy curricula. The PROMINENCE team recognises that many other cross-cutting physiotherapy competencies (e.g., professionalism, multidisciplinary working, communication, exercise prescription, digital competencies) are also relevant in the delivery of evidence-based physiotherapy
for people living with obesity.
