PROMINENCE Obesity OER Launch Webinar:
A Global Milestone
On 24 March 2026, the PROMINENCE Obesity Open Education Resource (OER) launch webinar marked an important milestone for the project, officially introducing its OER to physiotherapy educators and learners worldwide. The event formed a key part of the project's dissemination efforts, aimed at ensuring the resource reaches the widest possible audience across the physiotherapy education community.
The webinar drew 132 participants from 32 countries, reflecting the broad international interest
in advancing physiotherapy education on obesity. The session was opened by Emilia Kosińska, Projects Manager and Advocacy Officer at the World Physiotherapy Europe Region.
The PROMINENCE project was presented by the PROMINENCE project lead Caitríona Cunningham
from University College Dublin, Ireland , who walked attendees through the Obesity Competency Framework and the newly launched Obesity OER. The Q&A session, facilitated by Gráinne O'Donoghue (UCD), rounded off the webinar with an engaging and wide-ranging discussion.
Attendees represented 19 EU Member States and five aspiring EU Member States, alongside participants from three Asian countries and one African country, highlighting the global relevance
and reach of this EU-funded project.
Reflecting on the significance of the OER, Caitríona Cunningham noted that understanding obesity
as a complex disease is essential not only for the next generation of physiotherapists, but equally
for experienced practitioners looking to update and deepen their practice.
